VIP Values is an innovative and pioneering project that aims to raise awareness about the issue of young refugees and immigrants in the European Union and the possibilities offered by ICTs to improve their situation and give them a voice.
This project will also make possible to visualize the potential of technological progress, promoting an accurate image of the reality of these young people at risk of exclusion and the strategies that are being carried out both by them and by the volunteers and trainers and workers who provide them with help, assistance, etc. to improve that situation. Based on previous experience as well as the day to day of the entities that work in these areas, this project is based on an idea that is already underway in Spain at a national level, the “ICT for Peace” project, which can now grow and extend its reach to an expected number of 1500 people, bringing this proven methodology to other countries and young people, thus promoting European culture, international ties, the exchange of ideas, experiences and knowledge, solidarity between countries and all this focusing on the technological possibilities and their applications in situations of conflict, vulnerability, exclusion, etc.
Finally, the project fits in with the Sustainable Development Goals, and especially with objectives number 1, 10 and 16. In particular, objective 16 (to promote peace, justice and solid institutions for just and inclusive societies) is the axis around which the whole idea revolves, seeking to reduce discrimination, violation of rights and exclusion of young immigrants and refugees, and to do so through and thanks to information technologies. This only emphasizes the need for the project to be conceived transnationally, to help alleviate a gap that occurs transversally, and which coexists with inequalities of another kind between territories.
The project wants its beneficiaries to become the protagonist, to enhance their role as agents of change and essential actors of the peace process, so necessary to improve their situation in Europe. In this way, VIP Values will focus on two main lines: 1) highlighting the problem of refugees; and 2) recognizing and valuing the technological tools which help young refugees / immigrants to integrate. This means that volunteering, the use of technologies and peace are the three main aspects in this project.
The expected results are:
Local pilots: an example of how different organisations manage to involve young refugees and the local population in the actions. This will allow all partners to know different practices that may be applicable in their respective countries.
